Uday Kumar Chekkilla’s Expertise Joined (since January 2010) NIN and worked with research groups of Dr. A. Laxmaiah (2010-2011) and Dr. Bhanu Prakash Reddy’s (2011-2022). After completing the masters in biochemistry, I was having diverse and significant practical experience in the area of biochemistry, animal studies along with efficient problem-solving skills by working with various research projects and continued to my doctoral studies. My doctoral work comprises with the study of oxidative stress, glycation, polyol pathway, ER stress and fibrosis in Obese rat heart. Along with my doctoral work, I got expertise in working with diabetic retinopathy, prediabetic retial changes, obesity associated retinal degeneration, diabetic cataract, obesity associated cataract and pre diabetes related cataract and role of crystalline proteins in diabetic retinopathy, cataract. My work experience includes the effect of dietary interventions on above conditions and their role in modification of crystalline proteins to enhance their chaperon activity. I have been working with ER stress, oxidative stress, fibrosis, polyol pathway and hypertrophy. My technical expertise includes the biochemical estimations and assays, molecular biology techniques like western blot , immunofluorescence and RT-PCR, histopathology, working experience in type-1, type-2,prediabetes and obese animal models of STZ, High fructose, high fat and Obesity. With 10 years of experience in retinal and lens research in diabetes and obesity along with techniques like Electroretinography, Fundoscopy and Slit lamp. In the present lab, my research was focused on age related macular degeneration, cataracts, Nutrition and vision research using animal models of congenital cataracts and studying the role of advanced glycation end products in the age related eye complications.
